1969 -
May 1969 - In May 1969 they bought a mansion in Ascot called Tittenhurst Park and issued their second album "Unfinished Music No. 2: Life With The Lions". In September John first introduced the "Plastic Ono Band" on record. In November the couple issued their "Wedding Album".
Aug 1969 - John and Yoko moved into Tittenhurst in August 1969, and the studio was built soon after this.
Aug 22, 1969 - The Beatles' last day together, at John's Tittenhurst house on August 22, 1969. One of the photos like this was used as the cover for the Hey Jude compilation.
Sep 1969 - In September 1969, Swami Bhaktivedanta, the founder of the Hare Krishna movement arrived as a house guest at Tittenhurst Park. The Swami, who later became known to the world as Srila Prabhupada, gave public lectures in a tall, stately building at the northern end of the property a hundred yards from the main house, in which John and Yoko lived.
Dec 1970 - The piano was bought by Lennon in December 1970, and delivered to studios at his home in Tittenhurst Park in Berkshire. He composed and recorded Imagine on it, and was filmed playing the song on it for the first time to wife Yoko and the Plastic Ono band.
1971 -
A promotional video was made for the song in 1971. It showed, mostly in a continuous overhead shot by helicopter, John and Yoko travelling in a hearse from their Tittenhurst Park mansion to a nearby lake, where they were then shown hopping into a rowing boat.
Tittenhurst Park
This Tittenhurst Park blog is dedicated to John Lennon's home in Sunningdale, near Ascot, Berkshire between 1969 and 1971. The aim is to gather as much material relating to the estate as possible - obviously with the emphasis on the Lennon-era, but also concerning Tittenhurst Park as it was before and after John Lennon's ownership. In addition, there will be posts about and associated with the Beatles, plus any other rubbish I feel like. The blog is purely meant for the entertainment of anyone (assuming there is actually anyone) who, like me, has an unhealthy interest in one particular Georgian mansion. Those with anything interesting to contribute in the way of links, photos, scans, stories etc. please do contact me: tittenhurstlennon@gmail.com
