Clock

Clock was a one-hour study of a clock face shot in the lobby of the St Regis Hotel in September 1971. The Lennon's were staying there having just left England for the final time. The soundtrack, by John, included September 10th recorded acoustic versions of various Rock and Roll standards. They hadn't yet moved into the West Village. I seem to remember reading that, visually, the film consists mainly of a clock, like a Warhol film, with John and Yoko off screen. It would be nice to think there was a Pennebaker-style film out there of this stuff with shots of John playing guitar, while Yoko answers the phone. There's at least two instances where John answers the phone in a put-on voice. "Que pasa?? Whos is please, que pasa?" Some black and white footage surfaced back in '99, sold to a couple of collectors by Tony Cox, with John sporting a shaved head. Stills lifted from that footage show John in bed, playing a guitar, and Yoko beside him, perhaps on the phone. Maybe this is "Clock", however, the shaved head leads one to believe the footage may date back to 1970, around the time of "Instant Karma".
